Service Areas

Lehigh, Northampton and upper Bucks

A driving radius, not a map with half the state shaded in

Unity Heating & Air Conditioning runs out of Macungie, near the middle of Lehigh County. Tyler Furbacher owns the company, looks at the job himself and installs what he quotes, so the coverage stops where it does in order to keep that true.

Every town below has its own page, because the work genuinely differs. A 1980s electric-heat house in Macungie and a 1900 rowhome in Easton are not the same job, and the fuel your street is on changes the answer more than anything else.

Unity works out of Macungie. The rings are 5, 10 and 15 miles out.

The Macungie area

The borough, both townships, Alburtis, and the four villages the Census counts on their own. The shortest drives on the list, and the widest spread in fuel: four in five homes heat with gas in Ancient Oaks, fewer than one in ten in Alburtis.

Allentown and the north

The city and the township above it. Older, denser, and the two most oil-heavy populations in the service area by raw household count.

AllentownCity · Lehigh CountyOne household in seven still burns oil, in a city where 71 percent of the housing predates 1970 and 37.9 percent predates 1940.See the local pageWhitehallTownship · Lehigh CountyThe only township here where electricity is the majority heating fuel, at 54 percent, mostly on 1960s houses. South and east of the shop

Emmaus, the Saucon valley and the boroughs along Route 309. This is where the oil shares are highest.

EmmausBorough · Lehigh CountyGas, electricity and oil each heat about a third of the borough, so replacement here often starts with choosing a fuel rather than a furnace.See the local pageCoopersburgBorough · Lehigh CountyFuel oil heats 40.3 percent of households, the highest oil share in the region, and 61 percent of the borough predates 1970.See the local pageCenter ValleyUpper Saucon Township · Lehigh CountyPropane heats 6.3 percent of households here, several times the rate of nearby boroughs, on top of 20.1 percent oil.See the local page

Across the valley

Bethlehem and Easton. Further out, but the housing stock is the oldest in the region and the retrofit work is the most interesting.

Upper Bucks

The southern edge of the radius.

QuakertownBorough · Bucks CountyThe borough has run its own municipal electric department since the 1890s, so borough customers are not PPL customers and PPL rebates do not apply.See the local page

Everywhere else in the radius

Fogelsville, Zionsville, Old Zionsville, Vera Cruz, Limeport, Hellertown, Fountain Hill, Salisbury Township, Upper Milford, Lower Milford, South Whitehall, Catasauqua, Coplay, Northampton, Ironton, New Tripoli, Orefield and Schnecksville are all inside the driving radius and all get the same service. They do not have their own page yet, which changes nothing about whether the van comes.

If your town is not on this list, call and ask rather than assuming. The honest answer is sometimes no, and it is better to hear it on the phone.

Whichever town you are in, if you heat with oil the first question is what you would actually save by leaving it. Run the numbers on the oil savings estimator.
